Denzel Washington Gene Hackman Movies List

The Abyss is a submersible not a submarine. The Bedford Incident and Ice Station Zebra are movies with subs but not really submarine movies. And U-571 makes the bottom 5 of this list if at all. #2, really! Ahead of Das Boot and The Hunt for Red October. Seriously!

This film about a professional baseball player for the San Francisco Giants (Wesley Snipes) and a troubled man (Robert De Niro) who becomes obsessed with the player never really had a chance. Between its odd premise of a passionate fan that crosses the line and becomes a stalker to less than memorable performances by Snipes and De Niro, it was one of Scott's least successful films. Landing at number 13 on this list may be a tad generous simply because we love movies about baseball.

For such a tense film, Crimson Tide is not in a hurry to get to its central conflict. It takes about halfway through the runtime to get to the main schism, but Scott and screenwriter Michael Schiffer know that they have to lay the groundwork of the main personalities that will fracture and fray when the shit hits the fan. One of the great assets of the submarine movie is patience. Your characters have nowhere to go and they can't get there very fast, so it's all about building that internal tension, but whereas in other sub movies that tension comes from other submarines, for Crimson Tide, it's about the clashing personalities. And yet even here, Scott, Schiffer, Hackman, and Washington are careful not to go too broad. Ramsey isn't a madman, but he's part of the old guard and has a different belief system than Hunter. Their conflict is generational, although the movie also hints at a racial divide in the climax as the two discuss the color of Lipizzaner stallions.

This time he plays an infamous 70's drug lord. Interesting story and great acting (from co-star Russell Crowe as well).Inside Man - an exciting thriller with more than it's share of twists and turns. Story more than character driven, nonetheless Denzel Washington shines as the detective charged with getting to the bottom of a mysterious bank robbery.Denzel Washington plays a very very bad man in Training Day. Not to be missed. We're suckers for inspiring sports themed movies and Remember the Titans doesn't disappoint.Hate put me in here but love's gonna get me out says Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter. We defy you not to be inspired by Denzel Washington's portrayal of this remarkable man. Crimson Tide - Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman go toe to toe and nose to nose in this top notch military thriller set in a high-tech submarine. The Pelican Brief is a good motion picture adaptation of a John Grisham book. Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts shine in this fun legal thriller.Philadelphia - heartbreaking. Denzel Washington brings historical figure Malcolm X to life in this excellent Spike Lee film.Glory - Denzel Washington's portrayal of Trip, a member of the 54th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry who fought heroically and honorably as the only all-black regiment of the Civil War is the one that really got him noticed.

It is a sad but inescapable fact that the last time we saw Mr. Gene Hackman on a movie screen was in the flaccid 2004 farce called Welcome to Mooseport. Now in his 80s, the brilliant actor seems to have faded into a life of well-deserved retirement. And as much as I'd love to see the man deliver at least one more stellar performance, hell, the guy's done enough great acting for three lifetimes. So in honor of an actor I've adored since I was a wee little movie nerd watching Superman, here is a list of my 10 favorite Gene Hackman movies.
